Our students often lack the confidence to dive into problems and school work. That keeps them from being able to complete their homework or take tests properly, causing them to fall behind. Cheering them on their small achievements and encouraging them to make mistakes and learn from them and not give up help their confidence.

The more you can make the subject of their homework and coursework interesting and incite their curiosity, the more they will spend time trying to learn it. Examples that stimulate questions and spark their imagination help them remember their classwork.

We try to apply a well-rounded approach to measuring progress and growth. Report cards and grades help to get things started, but our observations of their attitudes, their interest and participation really helps us track their growth. Letting them know that they are doing better in certain aspects is also good for the students’ confidence.

Through moderate discipline and clear objectives set my the tutor, the student and the parents, we can make a plan to improve the student’s performance. When the student feels supported and included, they become more involved in their success and buy in to working hard towards their goals.

Many students come to our centre with a hard time concentrating on their work which leads to poor grades in school. We work with them to better understand where their loss of concentration comes from and help them find tricks and tools to focus better during homework and tests.

High school students who perform poorly in school might not exhibit any clear interest in subjects. Talking to them, understanding their outside hobbies and pastime really help us make school work relate back to their life interest which makes it easier for them to take the school work seriously and develop an interest.

High school is not forever. Talking about what our students’ future plans are helps them put their current struggles into perspective. Math and Sciences are often what youth struggle with the most, talking to them about practical uses of their learnings show them how they open up more choices after graduation.

After the last two years high school students have faced, they need more attention and understanding, especially when it comes to their ability to perform well at school. We want to make sure that our students know they are valued and their progress and even smallest of achievements are celebrated and their efforts are always encouraged.
